  What drives good people to do evil things without blinking?

  please read this short article and then think for a minute on how this apply to those amongst the jehovah's witnessses who enforce organizational policies that harm people (such as shunning, for example, but there are others, such as blood, rejection of higher education etc), and those who blindly comply with such pratices - both of them otherwise "nice, good people" in every other regards, and who apparently don't see anything wrong in doing something harmful, even evil, to their brethren.. what is this?

  the "banality of evil", or, instead, because there's such a strong identification with a cause, people just accept they are doing the right thing simply because the authority that is regarded as legitimatly representing such cause has instructed them to do so?.

  interesting thought - and this question too: if one ceases to see such "authority" as the legitimate agent of the cause, will that simple change cause the blind to finally become aware of the evil they've been enforcing / complying to?.

  I think if good people do evil.

  They were not really good.

  It was just a show.

  Or a misinterpretation of the observer.

  i was baptized at the age of 11. like most of us, my commitment wasnt to honor god but rather i was gang pressed into the service of the wtbts.

  and, at such a young age, it was impossible for me to appreciate the enormity of my actions.

  honestly, how could i possibly have known any better?

  what specifically made you stop believing in god and the bible?

  was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the bible was not what it's claimed to be?.

  I am a non believer of the watchtower

  Because of January 1, 1976.

  I did not see any difference on that day from the days before it.

  I also believe the watchtower company of 2014 is

  a very different corporation than it was in 1976.

  They used to believe that those who were of a discernable age in 1914 as

  a generation would not pass away before armegedon and the new system.

  I don't think the watchtower has ever been right about anything.

  that they prophecied.

  Which makes them false phrophets and the bible says to turn away from false

  phrophets.

  If we could take the governing body over to the middle east we could probably stone them today.

  For being false prophets.

  if so, i was just wondering if there are any books or steps (classes, etc) you took or recommend to really learn it.

  and for what you recommend, what exactly do you do?

  (long term, short, daytrade, calls, sell high buy low, buy low sell high, etc).

  I don't know any web sites.

  You just add up the closing price for the past 30 weeks and divide it by 30.

  If its above that you buy and hold if its below that you get out.

  If I were going to try it now in the new millenium.

  I would run some numbers and make some charts to test it.

  It wouldnt have worked while Bush was president because the market went side ways.

  I don't do it any more because I am retired.

  The idea is to make money you have to buy low and sell high.

  Following the 30 week average helps you to do that.

  You buy when its low but rising and sell when its high but falling.

  I would keep a 30 week average on all 3 indexes the dow, sp500 and nasdaq.

  then apply the proper index to my investment.

  I agree with Buffets methodology of buying good companies and holding.

  Which I have done.

  I used the 30 week average to make money in risky sectors of the stock maket,

  technology, biotech. communications any sector for that matter.

  I vote my pocket book.

  Forbes magazine which is all about money says Obama is the best

  economic president in modernt times.

  My portfolio is singing and thats what it is all about.

  But if the republicans steall the presidency again.

  I am going to gold and cash.

  And I will watch the muslim attack on CNN and Fox and read about

  how it was a republican conspiracy on youtube, and Alex Jones.

  I invested a lot before we went to a war econmy under George Bush.

  It was hard to make any money in the market when Bush was president.

  Obama is the best economic president ever according to Forbes and my portfolio is humming.

  I have stocks that I bought and held for the past 20 years like Coke, proctor and gamble, First energy, General Electric

  Ford, General Foods, Duke energy.

  I don't even think about them I know they will be in my estate when I pass on.

  In the 90's I invested in mutual funds on a 30 week average. When the market was above the 30 week average I bought and held.

  When the market went below the 30 week I was out that day.

  That worked from Regan through Clinton for me.

  It was bad during the first george Bush but he made some great buying opportunites under Clinton.

  The final year of Clintons presidency my total portfolio returned 40% and I captured it exiting under Bush

  when it droped below the 30 week average.

  For me there was no money to be made under Bush the dumber and little under the father.

  I would caution you to make your money now under Obama and hopefully a democrat sucessor.

  Because the stock market during my lifetime does not historically do well under republicans.

  That is why I am so against republican presiedents.

  I vote my pocket book.

  The market does not do well under republicans.

  If the republicans get the presidency you might want to try to buy stocks that profit off of war.

  Like Hallburton. But I found it hard to make money under the republicans.

  They are about war not bussiness.

  When its a bull market you can throw a dart at the stock page and hit a winner.

  When its a bear market it is hard to make money unless you short.

  Which I am not into.

  I like to buy and hold stocks

  and play mutuals on a 30 day average.

  You might want to tweak your average to 20 weeks for tech stock funds or other volitile select

  groups that do not represent the broad market.

  When Bush became president people with money got out of the market because they

  could watch Bush walk and talk and chew gum and they wanted to protect their money,

  So they went to real estate which made a bubble when all the stock market money went

  to it and then it poped.

  Bublbles always break or pop. That is why you need to monitor the market with a 30 week average.

  If you are going to buy a stock below its 30 week average, in my opinion you neeed some special

  information.

  I don't know how you get that.

  And I think it is either illegal or a gamble.

  I don't think there will be any major attacks in the US

  until the republicans get back in office.

  Then I would guarantee it.

  Espcecially if Jeb is elected

  It will be the clown show all over.

  Any Senior Citizens, Retirees here?

  I retired at 59.

  I am now 62 the time goes to fast. That is the worse thing.

  But it was going fast also when I was working.

  I have been playing soccer 3 days a week since I retired.

  I never played soccer until I turned 59.

  The soccer wears me out keeps me tired but gives me something to look forward to.

  I will play until I get too hurt.

  Then I will go back to my first hobby making music. Which I still do but it is 2nd to soccer now.

  My wife still works and has 2 years left. She gets 7 weeks vacation a year.

  She takes me on several vacations a year.

  We are going to the keys. Key West next month.

  I do miss work. I worked at the county jail and it was fun and interesting.

  But I am not going to live forever so I have to stop now and play until I die.

  if god created complex unique creation and is the amazing designer - he must be as equally unique and complexed!

  surely god would need a creater too????.

  Maybe God does have a desinger.

  But we can not understand that because we don't know everything.

  And we do not understand all of the dimensions.

  To our limited understanding God is outside our universe and doesnt have a begining that we can understand.
